ISN Medical in research partnership with the Institute of Human Virology-Nigeria (IHVN)

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are the leading cause of death globally, accounting for 71% of global mortality. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), over 12,750,000 people within the ages of 30 and 69, die yearly from NCDs in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

Unfortunately, the widespread presence of HIV and long-term use of antiretroviral therapy (ART) have further enhanced the ghastly impacts of NCDs in developing countries.

While previous studies have observed the interaction between HIV and NCDs in high-income countries, there is the need for a better understanding of their effects in the areas hardest hit – LMICs.

In order to help bridge this gap in medical literature, ISN Medical has partnered with the Institute of Human Virology-Nigeria (IHVN) to research on the rate of NCD progression among HIV positive patients as compared to HIV negative individuals.
